Can you dig some funk on a mountain? Even better, the show is open to all ages, so everyone can feel the funk. Over the years, the band has developed an intimate relationship with the Boone area. Heavily rooted in classic funk, the band has been honored to share the stage with many of its heroes, most notably Parliament-Funkadelic, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Bootsy Collins. The band had the unique opportunity of working with engineer Julian Dreyer on its new album. The band is excited to return to the High Country. Even more exciting for fans, the band is likely to break out some new material at Beech on Saturday.
The band was still arranging a couple of songs when tracking began, leaving room for the element of surprise. Funk Life is as modern as it is rooted in time-tested textures. For trombonist Derrick Johnson, the album presented an opportunity to use different techniques and sounds in creating a full horn section. Innovation aside, the group has a keen sense of immediacy. The band not only infuses its funk aesthetic with sparkle and buoyancy, but maximizes its onstage entertainment value. During a Booty Band show you might find band members in the crowd, on top of a bar, and definitely in yo face!
