I have read this little book since I bought it new soon after it originally was published. I thought this book was pretty good and gave me a firm footing on the basics.
Fpr helps you keep track of books you want to read. Like chess, you can make a Go move anytime you want if playing your machine. For more gradual book-learning, covering the same material but in much more detail and step-by-step, I would recommend Janice Kim’s series as a starting point. Same as other beginner books, this one has exercises at the end of the sections, but these are not only geared towards determining if bgeinners reader understood the basics, since they typically push a little further with challenging situations.

If you want just one book to start learning to play go, Go for Beginners would be a good choice. George Caplan Great book, my first as well. Go for Beginners by Kaoru Iwamoto. The book gives enough information and basic strategy for a newcomer to start playing. I have seen some books on sale on Amazon, but I think I’d much rather trust the opinions of you guys before I buy a book!

This part of the book will give you a very solid Go education as the author gets into various aspects of the game, including play along the side of the board, ladder slife and deathnet s, capturing racessnapbackand so forth.

Master the game of Go. After that initial explanation, the author walks us through captures and he does a thorough job with this. The third printing in uses more English terms and fewer Japanese language terms.

Second book of Go was my first book after knowing the basics and play some games and I really liked it. Vaguely explains the game of go. A slim beginners guide to Go with an explanation of the rules, example games with commentary and some elementary tactics.

I’m not an expert on go and iwmaoto is the first go book I’ve ever read.
